We of the “Or HaShalom” (The Light of Peace) organization in Tiberias are working all year long to assist indigent families, hungry children, old people and anyone approaching us.
Children go to sleep hungry, old people have to do without their regular medications and people even come to a point where they want to put an end to their lives because of economic difficulties – this is the economic situation in Israel as it appears in the Poverty Report of 2014. The report
is based for the first time on an index that examines the lack of fulfillment of the basic needs for leading a dignified existence in several areas such as housing, education, health, nutritional security and dealing with inflation of Israel’s indigent population. The
reporter examined the parameters and reflects what infation and the government’s economic measures such as V. A. T. and reduced child support really do to the poor. Economic distress also takes its toll on health: Last
year, 72. 5% of people receiving financial assistance could no longer afford to buy medications. The report also revealed that State Pension no longer provides the means for dignified living and basic needs for 94% of seniors, This means that 56% of this population suffers from a lack of nutritional meals! 41% of Israel’s population testifies to economic distress, We of the “Or HaShalom” (The Light of Peace) organization in Tiberias are working all year long to assist indigent families, hungry children, old people and anyone approaching us. We distribute blankets and heaters in the winter. At the onset of the school year,
we provide pupils from poor families with school bags and stationary. We also provide legal advice, guidance & assistance to the economically disadvantaged population in order to care for their most pressing needs.I am appealing to each of you, our Jewish brothers and sisters to adopt a needy family in Israel and help them out every month with $ 500 and provide $ 300 before holidays for a food package.
With blessings
